Proverbs - XXXII

 

• হাতি ঘোড়া গেল তল, পিঁপড়ে বলে কত জল ।
  He would bend the bow of Ulysses .
  Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
• বড় যদি হতে চাও ছোট হও তবে ।
  He would climb the ladder must begin at the bottom .
  if you want to gain high status, you must start with low status.
• মায়ের পায়ের তলে বেহেস্ত ।
  Heaven lies at the foot of mother .
  Obey your mother first.
• শাক দিয়ে মাছ ঢাকা।
  Hide in a superficial way.
  
• উঁচু গাছেই বেশি ঝড় লাগে।
  High winds blow on high hills.
  The more visible things are often affected.
• এখন তার একাদশে বৃহস্পতি।
  His stars are now in the ascendant.
  
• সময় সুযোগ বুঝে কাজ কর ।
  Hoist your sail when the wind is fair .
  Hit the iron while it is hot, make hwy while the sun shines.
• বাড়ি হলো তাই যেখানে হৃদয় থাকে।
  Home is where the heart is.
  People long to be at home.
• সততাই সর্বোত্তম পন্থা ।
  Honesty is the best policy .
  One gains by being honest; the best virtue is honesty.
• শাঁখের করাত, যেতেও কাটে আসতেও কাটে।
  Horns of dilemma.
